Under jockey Pierre-Louis Jamin, Royal Strike showed early pace and maintained the lead to hold off the top-weighted Star People by a length. Jamin noted the horse’s consistent improvement, highlighting previous runs at Hamilton and Thirsk as steps forward. He also pointed out that Royal Strike’s pedigree suggests speed is likely to be his strong suit.

In the apprentice handicap, King Sharja impressed with a decisive finish for trainer Ruth Carr and jockey Tom Kiely-Marshall. After taking the lead a furlong from the finish, King Sharja pulled clear to beat the favorite, Thats My Boy Luke, by one and three-quarter lengths. Kiely-Marshall, riding the horse for the first time, described how King Sharja responded positively once asked for an effort and noted that the horse has previously secured wins over seven furlongs. Saturday’s win marked his first victory at a mile. Despite breezy conditions and ground described as on the soft side of good, the rider said the weather had little effect on race proceedings.

Completing a double for Karl Burke, Vegasmile bounced back from a modest debut to dominate the two-year-old maiden. With jockey Sam James aboard, Vegasmile led throughout and pulled away to finish four lengths clear of odds-on favorite Extragalactic. James reflected that the horse’s previous run had presented challenges in securing an early lead, but this time Vegasmile controlled the pace effectively from the start, maintaining position along the rail until the finish.

The evening’s contests highlighted several emerging talents in the juvenile ranks, with trainers and jockeys optimistic about their future prospects as the season progresses.
