A 16-year-old student studying in Class 11 was arrested in Delhi for allegedly sending a fake bomb threat email to her own school in an attempt to disrupt classes, according to Indian authorities. The incident occurred at Air Force Bal Bharti School on Lodhi Road on October 23.
The email, which carried the alarming subject line “Bombs Placed in Your Building,” prompted an immediate investigation by Delhi Police. Officials said the student intended to have the school closed for the day. With the following Monday observed as a public holiday for Valmiki Jayanti, the closure would have effectively created a four-day weekend.
Authorities from the South District cyber police station carried out a technical probe after the threat was received. They examined the email, collected digital evidence, and reviewed records obtained from service providers. Investigators discovered that the message had been sent using a virtual private network (VPN) application on the suspect’s mother’s phone. However, the VPN reportedly malfunctioned due to heavy traffic, which enabled police to trace the device’s actual location.
The juvenile was taken into custody on Saturday and has been charged under India’s juvenile justice law. The school resumed normal operations following the resolution of the incident. Police have not reported any actual explosives or credible threats as part of their findings.
