The Environment Authority (EA) in Al Batinah North is set to launch a series of environmental education activities for schoolchildren aged 10 to 14 as part of the “Our Summer: Leadership and Creativity 2026” initiative. Scheduled to run from June 29 to July 2, the programme aims to foster environmental awareness and sustainability values among young participants during the summer vacation.
Organised in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North, the initiative operates under the theme “Our Environment: Trust and Sustainability.” It encompasses several interactive events designed to engage students with nature and encourage responsible environmental stewardship.
The programme will commence with a field trip to Mini Zoo Park in Suhar, providing participants the chance to explore biodiversity and learn about various animal species and their habitats. The visit aims to enhance observation and exploration skills while promoting empathy toward wildlife conservation.
On June 30, the EA will host the “I Decorate My Bag” workshop, where students will decorate bags using natural materials such as shells, beads, and colors. This activity is designed to inspire artistic creativity and emphasize the reuse of resources in environmentally friendly ways.
Following this, participants will take part in the “Taking Care of My Beautiful Seedling” workshop, focusing on the fundamentals of home gardening, including plant care techniques like watering and fertilizing. The session seeks to cultivate an appreciation for nature and instill a sense of environmental responsibility.
The series will conclude on July 2 with the “World of the Seas” workshop, during which students will create artistic models inspired by marine life using sand, shells, and eco-friendly materials. The activity aims to raise awareness about the ecological and economic significance of marine ecosystems while developing creative skills.
Eng Nasser bin Hamood al Yaqubi, Director of the Environment Department in Al Batinah North, highlighted the importance of such programmes in promoting environmental culture across society, especially among youth who represent the foundation for a sustainable future.
Parents of participants have voiced positive feedback, noting the value of these initiatives in providing children with opportunities to engage with the natural environment beyond technology and indoor pursuits. One parent remarked on how the programme helps instill environmental responsibility and practical skills in a fun and meaningful way.
