The Environment Authority (EA) in Al Batinah North has announced a series of summer activities aimed at fostering environmental awareness and sustainability values among young students. Under the banner “Our Environment: Trust and Sustainability,” the initiative forms part of the “Our Summer: Leadership and Creativity 2026” programme, organized in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North. The activities are scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 2, targeting children between the ages of 10 and 14.
The programme intends to utilize the summer break productively by engaging students in various educational and interactive events focused on environmental stewardship. The first event, set to be held at Mini Zoo Park in Suhar, will offer participants an opportunity to learn about biodiversity, animal species, and their natural habitats through an educational field trip. The visit aims to enhance observation skills and foster empathy towards animals, while highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation.
On June 30, the Environment Department will conduct a workshop titled “I Decorate My Bag,” in which students will creatively decorate bags using natural materials such as shells, beads, and colors. This workshop seeks to encourage artistic expression alongside promoting the reuse of materials as part of sustainability practices.
The following day, participants will engage in a session called “Taking Care of My Beautiful Seedling,” focusing on basic home gardening techniques including watering, fertilizing, and plant care. The activity is designed to deepen students’ connection with nature and cultivate a sense of environmental responsibility.
The programme will conclude on July 2 with the “World of the Seas” workshop, where students will create artistic models inspired by marine ecosystems using sand, shells, and eco-friendly materials. This session aims to educate children about the ecological and economic significance of marine environments while nurturing their creative skills.
Eng Nasser bin Hamood al Yaqubi, Director of the Environment Department in Al Batinah North, emphasized that these activities are part of ongoing efforts to embed environmental awareness across all community segments, with a particular focus on young people as vital contributors to a sustainable future.
A parent of one participating child expressed support for the initiative, noting the growing importance of such programmes in balancing children’s often indoor, technology-centered routines with hands-on environmental education. The parent highlighted the value of these activities in promoting practical skills and fostering a connection to nature in an engaging and enjoyable manner.
