Sunkist Fruit Gems, a kosher jelly candy popular in Jewish communities, is set to return to the market after plans for its discontinuation were announced earlier this year. Candyrific, a Louisville-based confectionery company, will take over production, according to a statement from Sunkist released Monday.

Earlier this year, Ferrara, the Chicago-based candy manufacturer known for brands such as Jelly Belly, Brachs, and Nerds, announced it would cease production of Fruit Gems. The colorful jelly candies have long held cultural significance, particularly within the Jewish community, where throwing the candies at bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies symbolizes the transition of young people into adulthood.

Sunkist said it had received significant public support following the discontinuation announcement and had been actively seeking a manufacturer to continue producing Fruit Gems. The company emphasized that the candy would maintain its original recipe and kosher certification, ensuring consistency for long-time fans.

While details about the transfer of the recipe or production specifics were not disclosed, Sunkist confirmed a target date of 2027 for Fruit Gems’ return to store shelves. Ferrara deferred questions to Sunkist, and Candyrific did not respond to requests for comment.
