Greece international Christos Tzolis has made a strong impression at Arsenal since joining the Premier League club this summer. The 24-year-old winger completed a £34 million transfer from Club Brugge and has quickly stood out during pre-season training sessions at Arsenal’s London Colney base.

Tzolis has earned the nickname “Leonidas” from Arsenal’s fitness staff, a reference to the Spartan king portrayed in the 2006 film *300*. The moniker relates to the player’s notable fitness levels and resilience, particularly after topping a demanding endurance test involving repeated sprints over varying distances totaling approximately 1.2 kilometers. Tzolis credited starting pre-season early with Club Brugge, as well as maintaining his physical condition over the summer, for giving him an advantage in the fitness drills.

Aside from his conditioning, Tzolis has already contributed on the pitch, scoring his first pre-season goal against Girona in a match on the weekend prior to the current week. Speaking about his move, he expressed enthusiasm about joining a top-level club and emphasized his ambition to develop further and reach the highest standards of the game.

Tzolis’ return to the Premier League comes after an earlier stint with Norwich City during the 2021-22 season. At that time, he struggled to establish himself, starting only a handful of matches in a team that was ultimately relegated. Subsequent loan moves, including one to Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany's second division, provided him the opportunity to rebuild his confidence and refine his skills. He credits this period with helping him regain form and learn valuable lessons, which eventually led to a successful two-year tenure at Club Brugge.

During his time in Belgium, Tzolis’ performances improved markedly. In his final season, he contributed 17 goals and 23 assists, helping Club Brugge reclaim the league title and placing him among the league’s most effective players in terms of goal involvements. This progression caught Arsenal’s attention, prompting the club to secure his services as they sought to replace departed winger Leandro Trossard.

Reflecting on his earlier experience at Norwich, Tzolis noted that the team’s defensive style and struggles made it difficult for him to showcase his abilities as a more offensive-minded player accustomed to teams that prioritize possession and chance creation. He described the move back to the Premier League as a chance to demonstrate his development, stating he felt “more ready” and determined to prove he can perform at the highest level.

Tzolis also mentioned his excitement about joining a diverse squad and integrating into Arsenal's culture. With his fitness, experience, and motivation all highlighted in early training, the Greek forward appears poised to make a significant impact in his first full Premier League season with Arsenal.
