A pickup truck crashed into a luxury car showroom in Hockley Heath, near Solihull in the West Midlands, damaging two high-value McLaren vehicles on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred when the Isuzu pickup reportedly sped across a main road from the car park of a pub located opposite the dealership.
The vehicle broke through a showroom window, dislodging a metal beam before coming to rest inside the Ryland Specialist Cars premises, which sells brands including McLaren, Rolls-Royce, and Lamborghini. Among the damaged vehicles were a black McLaren 750S Spider valued at approximately £270,000 and an orange McLaren GT worth around £105,000.
Fortunately, the dealership was closed at the time of the crash, and there were no serious injuries. One man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. West Midlands Police arrived at the scene around 3:45 p.m. and maintained a presence overnight while private security was arranged to safeguard the supercars.
Police confirmed that a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and remained in custody the following evening. Authorities also reported damage to a nearby pub’s window and received several complaints from people who said they were threatened during the incident. Witnesses said the driver of the pickup tried to force his way into the pub after the crash.
A spokesperson for the pub, which is part of the Stout and Stone Inns group, said the vehicle had been parked in its lot for one to two hours before the crash. However, pub staff reviewed CCTV footage and stated that the driver had not entered the premises prior to the incident and was unknown to them. The pub subsequently closed following the event.
A representative for McLaren acknowledged the incident but declined to comment further, citing the ongoing police investigation. West Midlands Police continue their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
