At least 38 people were reported with minor injuries after a section of a plaster ceiling collapsed at a supermarket in Daegu, South Korea, officials said Saturday. The incident occurred around 10:16 a.m. on the second floor of the four-story building.
Emergency responders from the Daegu Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly after the collapse. They evacuated 66 additional individuals from the premises as a precaution. Nine of the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Fire department official Yoon Jong-mi indicated that while the number of those affected might increase, it was unlikely that anyone had sustained serious injuries.
Rescue teams were seen searching through debris following the collapse, but authorities have yet to determine the cause. An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the reasons behind the ceiling failure.
