The Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque (JCC) successfully raised $4.5 million to fund extensive upgrades to its facilities, a goal set three years prior and achieved in 2026. The fundraising effort, known as the JCC Mission Possible Capital Campaign, focused on securing donations from community members through direct outreach and engagement.

Emily Fox, the JCC’s chief development officer, explained that the center collaborated with Thompson Construction, Inc., and Design Plus to plan a renovation budget aligned with the raised amount. The funds have been directed toward remodeling key areas of the center, including the locker rooms, playground, and lobby.

Beyond refurbishing existing spaces, the upgrades included the installation of a new handicap-accessible splash pad and the addition of three outdoor pickleball courts to complement the facility’s two indoor courts. These improvements aim to enhance the experience of JCC members and better serve the wider community.

The capital campaign relied heavily on personal appeals to both previous and potential donors, with a significant portion of the funding coming from the $1 million proceeds generated through the sale of the David Specter Shalom House property. Fox emphasized that every contribution, regardless of size, played a vital role in reaching the fundraising target.

Ron Winger, president of the JCC Board, highlighted the importance of the center as a community hub, underscoring its inclusive mission. “The JCC is just such an important community center; we welcome everyone through our doors,” he said.

The successful completion of the fundraising campaign and subsequent facility enhancements mark a significant milestone for the JCC, positioning it to better meet the needs of its members and the broader Albuquerque community in the coming years.
