Pharrell Williams, musician and Louis Vuitton’s menswear designer, presented a California-inspired collection at Paris Fashion Week last week, transforming the runway into a beach-like setting amid a record-breaking heatwave in France. The Spring/Summer 2027 show was held outdoors at the Cité Universitaire in southern Paris, where temperatures remained above 30 degrees Celsius into the evening.

The event drew heavily on American surf and skate culture, with models clad in a mix of denim, hoodies, colorful jackets, and low-cut sneakers reminiscent of classic California skate styles. Some models carried surfboards, while others complemented their outfits with miniature Louis Vuitton monogram bags. The runway scene included sand, surfboards, and a large artificial waterfall, evoking a coastal atmosphere contrasted by the soaring temperatures.

Across France, the heatwave saw temperatures approach 40 degrees Celsius, leading to temporary closures of several tourist landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower. Despite the extreme weather, Paris Fashion Week proceeded without cancellations. Several fashion houses, including Dior and Rick Owens, adjusted their schedules by shifting shows to morning hours to avoid the most intense heat.

Louis Vuitton responded to the conditions by increasing water supplies and scheduling additional breaks to ensure the well-being of staff and attendees. In addition to the surf-inspired pieces, Williams’ collection incorporated more traditional menswear, featuring dark green suits, coats, and pullovers with leather detailing.

Paris Men’s Fashion Week is set to conclude ahead of Haute Couture Week starting on July 6, with industry attention focused on Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first couture collection for Balenciaga.
