Boston’s pitching also helped secure the victory, with Ranger Suárez making his return from a three-week absence due to a strained left groin. Suárez delivered four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out six. Reliever Greg Weissert earned the win after a scoreless inning, improving to a 3-2 record.

Toronto’s starter Kevin Gausman took the loss, allowing three runs over six innings. The defeat marked another setback for Gausman, who has gone winless in 11 consecutive starts and carries a 0-7 record with a 5.93 ERA since May 22. The Blue Jays have also struggled as a team, dropping seven of their last 10 games following the All-Star break, failing to follow up on Dylan Cease’s strong one-hit complete game performance the previous day.

They are set to begin a seven-game road trip on Monday in West Sacramento, California, where newly acquired infielder Curtis Mead will join the team. Looking ahead to Monday’s scheduled starts, the Blue Jays plan to send right-hander Max Scherzer to the mound against the Washington Nationals, while left-hander Andrew Alvarez will start for Washington. For Boston, left-hander Payton Tolle is slated to start against the Sacramento River Cats, with right-hander Jack Perkins expected to pitch for the Athletics.
