A growing number of office workers in the United Kingdom are bringing packed lunches to work more frequently, according to a recent survey, as rising living costs prompt greater caution in daily spending. The poll of 2,126 adults found that 46% of professionals now pack their lunch more often than they did a year ago.
The trend is particularly pronounced among younger workers, with 64% of those aged 18 to 45 opting to save money by preparing meals at home rather than purchasing food near the workplace. This shift reflects broader concerns over affordability, as 69% of respondents indicated that buying lunch near their office has become too expensive.
In addition to cost savings, nutritional considerations are influencing the choice to bring food from home. Two-thirds of those surveyed (66%) reported that packed lunches make it easier to maintain a healthy diet.
Dan Elton, chief customer officer at Ocado Retail, remarked that consumers are increasingly seeking practical approaches to manage their finances. He noted that search data from their platform points to a clear demand for affordable food options, with packed lunches emerging as a common strategy to reduce everyday expenses.
The survey highlights a notable shift in workplace eating habits as economic pressures continue to affect household budgets across the UK.
