Newcastle-based Silverstone Building Consultancy has achieved B Corp certification, joining a global network of companies committed to balancing commercial success with positive social and environmental impact. The firm, which also operates offices in Leeds and London, provides building surveying, project management, and property consultancy services across the United Kingdom.

B Corp status is granted following a comprehensive assessment of a company’s operations, including governance, employee treatment, community engagement, environmental responsibility, and customer relations. To qualify, companies must provide documented evidence of their performance in these areas and legally integrate their commitment to social and environmental goals alongside profit.

Richard Farrey, managing director of Silverstone Building Consultancy, described the certification as a significant milestone. He highlighted the company’s thorough internal review of business practices and its focus on how it supports employees, clients, and the broader community. Farrey emphasized that the designation goes beyond a symbolic endorsement, reflecting a fundamental approach to responsible decision-making and long-term positive impact.

Silverstone joins more than 10,700 certified B Corps worldwide, including several in the North East of England such as Robson Laidler, Muckle, UMi, Berghaus, and Scott Logic. The expansion of B Corps in the building consultancy sector marks a growing trend of companies seeking to embed sustainability and ethical standards into their core operations.

Chris Turner, CEO of B Lab UK, the nonprofit that certifies B Corps, welcomed Silverstone’s inclusion, noting the organization’s diverse community spanning startups to multinational corporations across various industries. Turner described the development as a promising precedent for the building consultancy field, underscoring the potential for businesses to generate positive societal and environmental outcomes alongside financial success.
