A survivor of the 2024 Southport stabbing attack has criticized hospital staff for improperly accessing victims’ medical records. Leanne Lucas, 36, who intervened during the attack in which three children—Bebe King, six; Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven; and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine—lost their lives, voiced her dismay following the discovery of unauthorized access to confidential information.

An internal audit conducted by the University Hospitals of Liverpool Group revealed that 48 employees viewed the medical files of victims involved in the incident without proper authorization. The breach has raised questions about privacy and confidentiality within the hospital system.

Lucas expressed her disappointment in a recent interview, emphasizing the breach of trust experienced by victims and their families during a period of extreme vulnerability. She said she was shocked that no staff members faced dismissal over the misconduct and argued that those responsible should offer personal apologies to everyone affected by the tragedy.

The hospital group has acknowledged the findings of the audit but has yet to announce any disciplinary actions related to the incident. The unauthorized access prompted concerns about safeguarding protocols and the need for stricter enforcement to prevent similar breaches in the future.
