A Los Angeles County judge has ruled that Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, is mentally competent to stand trial in connection with the shooting at pop singer Rihanna’s Beverly Hills home, allowing the criminal case to proceed after a months-long delay for a competency evaluation.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi made the ruling on Tuesday. Ortiz’s psychiatric evaluation records remain sealed.

Authorities allege that Ortiz fired approximately 20 rounds from an assault-style rifle on March 8 near Rihanna’s residence in Beverly Hills. At the time, Rihanna, her partner ASAP Rocky, and their three young children were inside the home. Police reported finding bullet holes and impacts on the exterior gate, a fence, the windshield of an Airstream trailer, a patio area, and the outer wall of a nursery room on the property.

According to police documents, Rihanna and Rocky were inside the Airstream trailer during the incident, while their children were in the nursery.

Ortiz faces 14 felony charges, including one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, vehicle, or other targets, court records indicate.

Ortiz’s background includes a history of legal issues in Florida, where she resides. Previously, she filed for bankruptcy in 2013 and was arrested several times, including for suspected careless driving in 2021 and domestic violence and battery in 2023. She has also been active on social media, frequently posting about celebrities; notably, in February, she shared a meme falsely alleging that Rihanna had AIDS.

The investigation remains ongoing.
