Former Congressman Eric Swalwell continues to use campaign funds to cover legal expenses amid ongoing sexual misconduct allegations that have significantly damaged his political career. Financial disclosures filed on Friday reveal that Swalwell paid approximately $150,000 to the law firm Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP between May 17 and June 30. Prior to that period, he had already disbursed $50,000 to the same firm.

Swalwell’s campaign has relied on Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP for legal advice since 2016, with total payments surpassing $300,000 over the years. The law firm declined to comment on the recent transactions. Despite resigning from Congress and suspending his bid for California governor, Swalwell’s campaign continues to allocate funds for legal services.

The use of campaign dollars for these legal fees has drawn scrutiny from California ethics officials, who are investigating more than $300,000 paid to celebrity defense attorney Sara Azari, known for publicly defending Swalwell against the sexual misconduct allegations. A spokesperson for the California Fair Political Practices Commission stated there have been no recent updates on the investigation.

Swalwell’s political downfall began in April when multiple women came forward with accusations of rape, sexual assault, and other forms of misconduct. The allegations were initially reported by the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN, triggering a wave of media attention and prompting Swalwell’s resignation.

As Swalwell’s legal battles persist, his campaign remains active in funding defense efforts. The ongoing investigations and controversy have left his future in politics uncertain.
