Selangor winger A. Selvan scored his first goal for the club in their 3-0 Super League victory over Kuala Lumpur at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Sunday, but his celebration was notably restrained. The 25-year-old from Port Dickson put the Red Giants ahead in the 26th minute, yet instead of immediately celebrating, he looked toward the referee, concerned the goal might be disallowed due to a potential foul.

Selvan explained that he had seen Kuala Lumpur’s goalkeeper and centreback down on the ground, along with Selangor’s own striker Chrigor Moraes, which made him hesitant to celebrate. It was only after his teammates reassured him that the goal stood that Selvan allowed himself to mark the occasion. The winger expressed satisfaction with opening his account for the team and hopes it marks the beginning of more goals.

Throughout the match, Selvan was a constant threat, particularly down Kuala Lumpur’s left flank, frequently outmaneuvering Ukrainian centreback Dmytro Lytvyn and leftback Syazwan Andik. One notable moment featured Selvan dribbling past five defenders, a move that elicited audible reactions from the crowd. His overall performance earned applause from the opposing team’s bench and a standing ovation from Selangor supporters when he was substituted in the 60th minute.

Coach Kim Pang-gon has been credited by Selvan for helping him integrate quickly into the squad. Besides Selvan’s opener, Selangor’s other goals came from Moraes in the 51st minute and Venezuelan midfielder Eduardo Sosa in the 73rd minute.

With the win, Selangor improved to a perfect record of four wins from as many matches, occupying third place in the league with 12 points, separated by goal difference from second-placed Kuching City. Kuala Lumpur, on the other hand, remain sixth in the standings with six points from five games.
