The marathon, held recently in Sydney, also featured a strong performance from Andrew Buchanan, who was the first Australian to cross the finish line in the men's race. Buchanan completed the course in 2:10:14, placing 16th overall and securing the national title. Reflecting on the event, Buchanan praised the location and the support from the crowd, emphasizing the inspiring atmosphere created by the spectators.
On the women’s side, Tokyo Olympian Ellie Pashley claimed the national title, finishing with a time of 2:28:28. Kent Ohori set a record by finishing in a beer can outfit, completing the race in 3:28:27. Phil Bent earned recognition for running in a reptile costume weighing 4 kilograms, while Rebecca Joyner participated dressed in a scout uniform. Nilhari Bhandari completed the race wearing a traditional Bhutanese dress, adding cultural diversity to the list of costume runners.
