Malaysian politician Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has extended a wedding invitation to Singapore’s Health Minister Ong Ye Kung ahead of his upcoming nuptials with singer-actress Bella Astillah. The ceremony is scheduled for October 10 at Menara Merdeka Maybank in Kuala Lumpur.

In a social media post on September 9, Syed Saddiq shared a photo of himself with Ong Ye Kung, who was seen holding the invitation card featuring the couple’s image. Syed Saddiq described the gesture as an upgrade in bilateral relations “to wedding-invitation status,” underscoring the close ties between Malaysia and Singapore and framing the invitation in the spirit of fostering familial bonds.

Ong responded the following day by congratulating Syed Saddiq and expressing his appreciation for the invitation. He referred to Syed Saddiq as his "social media 'teacher'" and indicated that the wedding would provide a good reason to visit Malaysia again. The exchange drew light-hearted comments from Singaporean netizens, with some humorously requesting to accompany Ong to the wedding or secure their own invitations.

The friendship between the two politicians has been marked by previous personal interactions. During a working visit to Kuala Lumpur in 2022, Ong was invited by Syed Saddiq to sample various Malaysian dishes such as asam pedas, mee bandung Muar, and otak-otak Muar. Syed Saddiq also encouraged Ong to join the social media platform TokTok, reflecting his influence in digital communications.

Syed Saddiq, 33, and Bella Astillah, 32, became engaged on March 28. In addition to the Kuala Lumpur ceremony, the couple plans to hold celebrations in their respective hometowns of Muar and Sabah. Bella, whose birth name is Dayang Ara Nabellah Awang Astillah, is a singer and actress with two children aged six and nine. She was previously married to Singaporean actor Aliff Aziz before their divorce in 2024.
