Liverpool vice-captain Dominik Szoboszlai has responded to recent criticism by emphasizing the human aspect of his performances, acknowledging that all players experience fluctuations in form. However, he swiftly bounced back with a remarkable goal in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup victory over Tottenham, which he described as a personal celebration rather than a message to detractors.

Szoboszlai, who marked his goal by placing a finger in his ear, stated the gesture was meant for himself and not aimed at anyone else. Reflecting on the pressure players face, he said, “We are humans so we can have bad games. Never ever was there a player who played every game of his life well, so there will be days and games where I am going to play bad. The most important thing is the reaction.” He expressed optimism about maintaining his form in Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.

When asked about the criticism following his recent performances, Szoboszlai appeared unaware of the extent of negative feedback, responding, “Was there criticism? I didn’t know, I didn’t see but thanks for telling me.” He highlighted that even during successful campaigns, such as when Liverpool won the league, players have off days. “The season is long and we are ready to go,” he added, underscoring the team’s resilience.

When questioned about his preferred position, he emphasized his desire simply to contribute on the pitch regardless of the role. “There will be games where we are not playing at our best but it is about leaving the past and then the next one, the next one.
