Tadej Pogacar regained the overall lead in the Tour de France following a commanding performance on stage six, which concluded at Gavarnie-Gedre after a challenging route over the Col du Tourmalet. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider secured the stage victory by two minutes and 38 seconds, moving ahead of his main rivals and reclaiming the yellow jersey.

Pogacar launched a decisive attack with just over four kilometers remaining on the 17-kilometer climb of the Tourmalet, overcoming the Pyrenean ascent before extending his lead on the descent and final ascent into the finish. He finished well ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, who had been tied with Pogacar on time at the start of the stage. This marked the 17th occasion in Tour history that Pogacar and Vingegaard have finished first and second on a stage.

Torstein Traeen, who had taken the yellow jersey earlier in the week and hoped to retain it into the race’s second week, fell behind less than halfway up the Tourmalet. The seven-minute 53-second advantage Traeen held over Pogacar at the outset was eliminated en route. A crash on the descent further contributed to his time losses.

Pogacar expressed confidence and satisfaction following the stage, noting the support from his team and his own strong performance. His victory on this iconic mountain stage reestablishes him as the race leader and sets a clear advantage as the Tour moves forward.

The stage highlighted the intense competition among the top contenders, particularly between Pogacar and Vingegaard, who have now frequently battled for top positions. With Pogacar in yellow once again, the race enters a critical phase as riders continue through the demanding Pyrenean terrain.
