Taiwanese singer and television host Jacky Wu publicly confirmed on July 18 that he and his wife, Chang Wei-wei, divorced 12 years ago. The announcement came during Wu’s concert at Genting Highlands in Malaysia, marking the first time he openly addressed the matter. Wu also revealed that he had left all his assets to Chang following their separation.

Wu, 63, and Chang, 64, were married in 1990 and have four children together: three daughters—Sandy, Vivian, and Olivia—and a son, Rick. Sandy Wu, 35, is a television host who co-hosted the variety show Super Entourage with her father from 2016 to 2025. Rick, 28, performs as a singer under the stage name LucyPIE, while Vivian and Olivia are not involved in the entertainment industry.

During the concert, Wu’s protege, comedian Liu Wei-ting, known as “Seafood,” proposed to his girlfriend, Lee Ying-hsuan, with Wu acting as a witness. Following the proposal, Wu spoke candidly about his long-standing divorce, stating that the separation had occurred amicably and with the support of his daughter Sandy, who assisted with the legal proceedings. He described himself as “not a good husband, but definitely a good father,” emphasizing his decision to leave his assets to his former spouse.

In a July 19 interview with a Taiwanese media outlet, Wu acknowledged that his divorce had been an open secret within the entertainment industry for some time, but that he had previously chosen not to discuss it publicly. He said that at his age, the subject no longer required concealment and that sharing the information now felt like a natural step. Wu also clarified that Sandy did not interfere in their marriage, but merely helped handle the administrative aspects of the divorce. He described his and Chang’s parting as amicable, crediting their diverging life paths for the separation—Chang became a church preacher while Wu focused on his entertainment career.

Earlier reports indicated that Chang and her elder sister operated a hair salon in Taipei in the past, where she met Wu. Their wedding banquet was held in New Taipei City, though Wu did not publicly acknowledge his marriage until 2000, a decade after their wedding.

Some of Wu’s fans were surprised by the announcement, though there had been prior indications that the couple were no longer together. At a 2024 event in Taipei, Wu revealed that he and Chang had lived apart for many years and that he was unaware of her current residence. When asked about their relationship at that time, Wu responded briefly, saying, “Don’t ask this question. Everything is fine.”
