Tasnim Jara, former leader of the National Citizen Party, has publicly criticized Jamaat-e-Islami for obstructing the burial of a prominent freedom fighter in Pirojpur. Jara’s comments came in response to the controversy surrounding the burial of Manik Posari, an 87-year-old gazetted freedom fighter who had filed a war crimes complaint against former Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.

Manik Posari passed away on Saturday in Gopalganj. Amid protests against the honor guard and the burial arrangements in Pirojpur, he was ultimately laid to rest early Sunday morning at his family graveyard in Chitalia village, under police protection. Jara accused members of Jamaat-e-Islami of interfering with the burial process by filling in a prepared grave at Posari’s family home, which compelled his relatives to dig a new grave elsewhere.

In a Facebook post, Jara condemned the obstruction, questioning how Jamaat-e-Islami might govern if they could disrupt such personal matters even without official authority. “Even while in opposition, they are obstructing a burial on a man’s own homestead. What will they do if all the powers of the state are in their hands?” she wrote.

However, Sohrab Hossain Jewel, secretary of the district Jamaat’s publicity and media department, denied any involvement by the organization in the interference with Posari’s burial. The party’s local representatives have not acknowledged responsibility for the actions described by Jara.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the region related to historical grievances tied to the 1971 war of independence and the roles played by various political factions. Posari’s status as a freedom fighter, coupled with his legal action against a former Jamaat leader, appears to have contributed to the contentious circumstances surrounding his funeral.
