Tate & Lyle will cease trading on the London Stock Exchange after 91 years following shareholder approval of its £2.7 billion acquisition by the US-based Ingredion. The transaction, valued at 615 pence per share in cash, represented a 60 percent premium over Tate & Lyle's unaffected share price from May.
At the recent shareholder meeting, 82 percent of voting participants, representing 98.6 percent of voting shares, endorsed the takeover offer. Ingredion, a global ingredients producer, indicated that the combined entity is expected to achieve annual revenues of approximately $9.9 billion, with adjusted profits projected at $1.8 billion.
This acquisition marks another significant instance of a London-listed company choosing to delist this year amid an ongoing trend of increases in cross-border consolidations and market departures. Tate & Lyle’s exit reflects broader shifts within the UK’s public markets as overseas buyers continue to pursue strategic expansions through takeovers.
