Taunton Town returned to winning form in a high-scoring encounter, edging Basingstoke Town 4-3 at home on Saturday. The match featured early dominance from Taunton, a red card for the visitors, and a tense finish as Basingstoke fought to close the gap.

The hosts, known as the Peacocks, surged into a three-goal lead inside the first 19 minutes. Alfie Moulden opened the scoring after receiving a precise pass from Jay Murray, calmly finishing low past Basingstoke goalkeeper Simon Grant. Shortly after, Jack Rice converted a penalty awarded when Ben Seymour was fouled inside the area, doubling Taunton's advantage. Murray then extended the lead further, striking a powerful effort into the top left corner from the edge of the box.

Basingstoke began to respond midway through the first half with a goal from Christos Papkonstantinou. However, their deficit worsened before the break when Nimanga Ceesay was shown a second yellow card and sent off, reducing Basingstoke to ten men.

Taunton capitalized on their numerical superiority after halftime. Murray scored his second goal of the match at the hour mark, poking the ball home following a save spill by Grant off Dylan Jones’ shot. Basingstoke pressed on despite being a man down, with Miles Obodo pulling one back by racing through the defense and curling the ball into the net with 15 minutes remaining.

The visitors continued their comeback efforts and produced another goal two minutes later when Blake scored his second of the match. Despite the late surge, Taunton maintained their composure to secure the 4-3 victory, ending a run of winless results in the league.
