Oscar-nominated writer Taylor Sheridan is developing a new television drama set in Scotland, marking a departure from his signature Americana-themed projects. Titled The Laird, the series is scheduled to begin filming in Scotland later this month and is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in 2027.
Sheridan, known for creating hits such as Tulsa King, Yellowstone, and Landman, is reportedly exploring historical and cultural connections between Scotland and the United States in this new project. A source familiar with the production noted that the show is likely to delve into themes previously touched on in Yellowstone, where the Dutton family’s Scottish Highlands origins were referenced. The narrative may also address the migration of Scots to America during the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as the complex and darker history involving some Scots’ participation in the trans-Atlantic slave trade, which contributed to the wealth and social standing of certain landowners.
Details regarding the cast remain undisclosed. However, Sheridan’s past series have attracted prominent actors. His recent drama Landman featured Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore, while Tulsa King starred Sylvester Stallone. Yellowstone, along with its prequel 1923, featured actors such as Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford, and Dame Helen Mirren. Other projects like Mayor Of Kingstown have included Jeremy Renner and Emma Laird. All of these productions have been distributed through Paramount+.
The Laird is slated to continue Sheridan’s track record of creating character-driven dramas with deep ties to regional settings and history, this time focusing on Scottish heritage and its transatlantic connections.
