Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter are set to contend against each other at the 78th Emmy Awards, scheduled for September 13 in Los Angeles. Both singers, who are also close friends, have received multiple nominations for their work on Disney+ projects.
Swift, 36, earned five nominations for her concert film The Eras Tour: The Final Show, which captured the final night of her record-breaking stadium tour in Vancouver. The film is nominated in the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category, as well as for Directing, Picture Editing, Sound Mixing, and Technical Direction. Swift was the main producer of the special, which has been praised for its emotional and cinematic portrayal of the event. She previously won an Emmy in 2015 for AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience.
Carpenter, 27, was nominated in the same Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category for An Evening With Sabrina Carpenter & The Muppets, a one-off festive special on Disney+. Carpenter not only performed alongside well-known characters such as Kermit the Frog but also served as a producer for the project, which received acclaim for its unique blend of music and puppetry.
In addition to Swift and Carpenter, Lady Gaga, 40, is also among the nominees in the music category. She received a nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for her song "The Dead Dance," written for the Netflix series Wednesday.
The Emmy Awards this year mark another milestone for Swift, coming shortly after her recent marriage to NFL player Travis Kelce. The event promises to showcase a competitive field across various categories, particularly in the music and variety special segments, as these prominent artists vie for recognition.
