U.S. pop singer Taylor Swift has donated $50,000 to support the recovery of a Connecticut mother critically injured while assisting teenagers involved in a car accident on a Rhode Island highway. The contribution was made to a GoFundMe campaign established for Ashley Taunton, 42, who sustained serious injuries in July after stopping to help the teens.

According to reports, Taunton was driving with her youngest daughter when she noticed the teenagers’ vehicle had lost control in wet road conditions. She pulled over to offer assistance and helped move the group to a safer location. The situation turned perilous when a second vehicle also lost control on the slippery highway and veered toward the group. Taunton pushed one of the teenagers out of harm’s way but was struck by the oncoming car herself.

Taunton, a certified nursing assistant, underwent major surgery due to multiple severe injuries and is expected to require up to a year for full recovery and rehabilitation. Swift’s donation represents the largest single contribution to the fundraiser, which had accumulated more than $64,000 as of August 28.

In a message left on the campaign page, Swift extended her well wishes, writing, “Wishing you the best recovery possible and sending love to your family Taylor.”

Taunton later learned that one of the teenagers she aided was the son of a longtime friend. She shared that her friend was overwhelmed upon learning about the incident, saying, “Oh my gosh, that was Ashley? She saved my son’s life.”

The experience has prompted Taunton to reconsider her approach to daily life and relationships. Reflecting on her recovery, she said, “Life is very busy and it’s easy to postpone plans, especially with friends and loved ones. I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to make sure that I am taking time, even if it’s just going to grab a coffee with a friend, because we never know how you’re going to leave this earth.”
