A Florida history teacher is facing scrutiny after allegations that she targeted an eighth-grade student for his conservative political views. Liz Ballard, who teaches at Pine View School in Osprey, has been accused of singling out the student during class discussions and labeling him a "misogynist," according to a letter from Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier.

The attorney general’s letter, dated Monday, states that Ballard pressured the student to defend his conservative beliefs publicly, despite the student having informed her that his parents had expressly forbidden him from participating in such debates. Uthmeier characterized the teacher’s actions as harassment and a deliberate attempt to "cancel" the student for his political stance. He described the conduct as leading to what he called the "reputational destruction of a child."

In addition to pressuring the student in class, Ballard is alleged to have disparaged his family, including questioning the appropriateness of his father's influence. Reports indicate that these comments were made openly and contributed to ongoing tensions.

Liz Ballard has previously been the subject of multiple human resources investigations, and several parents have raised complaints about her conduct. In light of the latest accusations, Attorney General Uthmeier has called on the school to consider terminating her employment if the allegations are substantiated.

Pine View School is recognized as one of Florida’s top public schools, making the developments significant within the community.
