An Indian technology company, Meta for Data Technologies, is set to invest £50 million in the United Kingdom, with plans to create approximately 500 new jobs. The investment will support the establishment of an artificial intelligence research centre, an engineering AI hub, and a quantum computing laboratory, all located in the Manchester area. Additionally, the company intends to expand its existing headquarters in London.
The announcement was made during a visit by UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds to India, accompanied by mayors from northern England and representatives from over 100 businesses. This trade mission aims to strengthen economic ties between the two countries and build on the momentum of the UK-India free trade agreement, which was signed in July 2025.
Officials involved in the mission emphasized the significance of foreign direct investment in supporting innovation and economic growth in the UK, particularly in the rapidly evolving fields of AI and quantum computing. The initiative is expected to enhance the country’s position as a global technology hub, while also providing high-skilled employment opportunities in northern England.
Meta for Data Technologies’ commitment reflects increasing interest from Indian businesses in expanding their presence in the UK market, underscoring the ongoing development of bilateral trade relations between the two nations. The company’s investment aligns with broader government efforts to attract international tech firms to foster research and development within the UK.
