A 17-year-old suspected gang member was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Queens last month, according to law enforcement officials. The teenager faces charges related to the September 21 shooting of Malakai Adams in the Edgemere neighborhood.

Authorities said the suspect, affiliated with the Crips gang, allegedly shot Adams in the back before fleeing the scene on a scooter around 11:30 a.m. on the day of the incident. Initial reports had suggested the shooting stemmed from an attempted scooter robbery, but investigators now indicate the confrontation arose from an online dispute between the two individuals.

The investigation appears to have shifted focus from a potential robbery to a conflict that escalated through social media interactions. Police have not disclosed additional details about the nature of the online argument or the motive behind the attack.

Officials continue to review evidence as the case proceeds. The arrest marks the first significant development in the effort to hold the suspect accountable for the fatal shooting of the young teenager.
