A 15-year-old girl was fatally struck by a construction vehicle while riding a Citi Bike in Manhattan on Friday evening, police said. The victim, identified as Daria Serkov, was accompanied by a 13-year-old friend when the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on East 14th Street.

According to authorities, Serkov and her bike became pinned under the heavy excavation vehicle following the collision. Bystanders rushed to assist, and first responders spent approximately 10 minutes attempting to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The friend who was with Serkov sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital, where they remain in recovery.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as traumatic. Bdin Puangsawaski, a nearby restaurant owner, reported that the truck driver remained at the location and was visibly distressed, crying after realizing the severity of the accident. No charges have been filed against the driver, who remains unidentified.

Family and friends have described Serkov as an avid cyclist who loved riding bikes, including Citi Bikes. A photo of her cycling on a Citi Bike has circulated on social media since the incident. To support the grieving family, a GoFundMe page was established, raising over $62,500 by Sunday morning to help cover funeral and related expenses. A family friend emphasized the community’s role in offering support, particularly for Serkov’s twin sister, Greta, during this difficult time.

The New York Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
