A teenager in Mosgiel was seriously injured after reportedly being struck with a coffee mug during an altercation, police said. The incident occurred at a residential address on Bush Road around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman of Dunedin Police reported that two 18-year-old men were involved in a dispute, during which one allegedly hit the other with a coffee mug. The victim sustained a significant laceration to his neck and was bleeding heavily at the scene.

Emergency responders provided medical treatment before the injured teenager was transported by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital in serious condition. A spokesperson from Hato Hone St John confirmed that the patient was treated on-site prior to hospital transfer.

Following the incident, police arrested the alleged attacker. The 18-year-old appeared in Dunedin District Court the next day, facing charges of wounding with intent to injure. Judge Belinda Sellars KC granted the defendant interim name suppression and remanded him on bail, setting a further court appearance for later in the month.
