Television presenter Davina McCall has disclosed a new diagnosis of cardiovascular disease (CVD) following a series of significant health challenges, including breast cancer and a brain tumour. The 59-year-old revealed her condition during an episode of her podcast, Begin Again, where she discussed the importance of raising awareness about women's heart health.
McCall, known for hosting shows such as Big Brother, shared her experiences in a conversation with heart attack survivor Louise McGill. Reflecting on her health journey, she described feeling vulnerable after her cancer treatment, saying that illness changed her perception of her own invincibility. She noted that she had been living with high cholesterol for some time prior to the CVD diagnosis but was initially reassured that her levels were balanced by "good cholesterol."
Highlighting the prevalence of heart attacks and cardiovascular disease among women, particularly after menopause, McCall urged listeners not to dismiss symptoms. “Heart attacks and cardiovascular disease are rife, particularly in women post-menopause,” she said, emphasizing the need for vigilance.
McCall was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2025 and announced in April that she had received the “all clear” following surgery. She also underwent an operation in 2024 to remove a benign brain tumour.
Cardiovascular disease encompasses various conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels and is often caused by a buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries, which can restrict blood flow. Medical authorities highlight that CVD remains a leading cause of illness worldwide, underscoring the importance of early detection and management, especially among at-risk groups such as postmenopausal women.
