Temasek Trust and the World Bank Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on initiatives focused on agriculture, climate, and energy. The agreement, formalized on October 12 during the inaugural World Bank Group Philanthropy Forum in Bangkok, aims to leverage the complementary strengths of both organisations to develop and scale effective solutions in these key sectors.

Under the MOU, the two parties plan to explore co-financing and innovative funding mechanisms to mobilize additional resources. A significant component of the partnership involves knowledge sharing and capacity building. Temasek Trust is set to establish a Knowledge Node at Temasek Shophouse by 2027, which will provide philanthropic partners access to the World Bank’s extensive datasets, technical expertise, and global networks.

Paschal Donohoe, managing director and chief knowledge officer of the World Bank Group, emphasized the importance of collaboration amid growing development challenges and constrained resources. He highlighted the role of the Philanthropy Hub, which was also launched during the forum, as a platform to connect ideas, resources, and partners to scale solutions and generate impact for communities worldwide.

Desmond Kuek, executive director and CEO of Temasek Trust, underscored the complex nature of today’s development issues, noting that they do not fit neatly into traditional sectors. He pointed out that philanthropy plays a crucial role in pioneering innovative approaches by taking early risks and unlocking partnerships and capital. Kuek expressed confidence that the partnership with the World Bank Group and its Philanthropy Hub will help bridge systemic gaps, scale successful initiatives, and create new avenues for collective action.

The collaboration reflects a growing trend among philanthropic organisations and multilateral institutions to join forces in tackling global development challenges by combining resources, expertise, and networks to deliver sustainable impact.
