Sayidah Dariyan, trained by Richard Hughes, is among the leading hopes following a drop in class. The filly has faced top-level sprinting competition throughout the past year, securing a Group 3 victory in the Summer Stakes and competing credibly at Group 1 level. She resumed her season with a solid third-place finish behind Flora Of Bermuda at Newmarket, and although she finished ninth in the Jubilee Stakes, she remained competitive, staying within a few lengths after encountering a strong pace. The planned step up to seven furlongs is seen as a positive move, and the booking of jockey Ryan Moore adds to her appeal.
Flora Of Bermuda, herself a Summer Stakes winner at York, is highly regarded after demonstrating Group 1 class over six furlongs and placing in several major sprint events. This race marks her first attempt over seven furlongs, which remains an uncertainty, but her finishing speed over shorter distances suggests she could handle the longer trip. Should she prove comfortable over the added distance, she is expected to be a major contender.
Ralph Beckett's Planet Seeker is another to watch. The three-year-old impressed when winning her handicap debut at Newmarket with authority and is viewed as having the potential to perform at Group level. She benefits from a 7-pound weight allowance compared to older runners. Zanthos, also trained by Beckett, has not shown her best in two starts this season but carries strong credentials, notably her victory in the Rockfel Stakes last autumn—the last time she raced over this distance. Beckett’s other runner, Dash Of Azure, is considered to have an each-way chance.
Pershaada, trained by Richard Hannon, bids for success following a valiant effort at Royal Ascot. The filly previously won a minor race at Goodwood and elevated her form with a fourth-place finish in the Queen Mary Stakes. Hannon’s stable has enjoyed a good record in this race, with two wins in the past five runnings. Pershaada is expected to benefit from fast ground conditions and is thought to have further improvement ahead.
Crownbreaker is regarded as a key rival after recently capturing a Listed race at Deauville, making a swift return to form following a credible fifth in the Queen Mary Stakes.
Among the colts, Adonius remains unbeaten in three starts, including a front-running win at Chester. The subsequent success of the runner-up there has enhanced the form line. Although Adonius missed Royal Ascot, providing him with freshness, the absence also raises some caution. El Floridita, who showed marked improvement when finishing second in the Norfolk Stakes, represents another progressive contender who is expected to handle the fast ground and remain on the rise.
Other notable runners include Ruler’s Pride, who is worth reconsideration after encountering traffic difficulties in the Coventry Stakes, and Sale Shark, who may benefit from a return to five furlongs following two solid performances over longer distances.
