Tencent Cloud, the cloud division of the global technology company Tencent, has entered into a partnership with Malaysian telecommunications provider U Mobile to advance the development of 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions targeted at enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia.

The two companies confirmed that they signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on creating, testing, and demonstrating practical applications aimed at addressing real-world business challenges. This initiative seeks to combine Tencent Cloud’s strengths in AI and cloud computing with U Mobile’s Ultra5G network and its enterprise innovation platform (EIP), which provides access to the network provider’s enterprise customer base.

This partnership represents Tencent Cloud’s first AI-centric collaboration with a Malaysian telecom operator. Poshu Yeung, senior vice-president and head of Tencent Cloud International, emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering enterprises, SMEs, and developers to build impactful 5G and AI applications that support Malaysia’s broader digital transformation goals.

U Mobile’s chief technology officer, Woon Ooi Yuen, highlighted the role of the EIP platform in facilitating the journey from conceptualization to real-world implementation. He noted that the platform aims to turn promising ideas into tangible solutions through a structured “develop, test and demonstrate” approach.

Both organizations plan to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including businesses, startups, developers, academic institutions, and technology partners, to collaboratively create, validate, and deploy applications with potential for real-world adoption.

The collaboration underscores growing efforts in Malaysia to harness emerging technologies such as 5G and AI to fuel innovation in the SME sector, which is seen as vital to the country’s economic growth and digital economy ambitions.
