Huddersfield Town secured a significant 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle in a pivotal match at Home Park on Sunday, strengthening their position near the top of the standings. Goals from Derensili Sanches Fernandes and Bojan Radulovic highlighted a commanding performance from the visitors under manager Martin Drury.

Huddersfield’s win moved them to third place, setting up a home fixture against 19th-placed Peterborough United on Tuesday. Drury expressed confidence in his squad’s trajectory, emphasizing the team’s attacking intent and room for growth. “We don’t want to sit back; we want to score more goals,” he said. “We try to be on the front foot in every game and intense. Of course, we want more goals, but I must also acknowledge the fact that we are creating so many chances.”

The match was closely contested, with Plymouth goalkeeper Murphy Cooper making several impressive saves to keep the hosts in the game during the first half. Early on, Cooper denied Sanches Fernandes with a diving save, but was unable to prevent the winger from scoring two minutes later following a pass from Joe Taylor. Cooper continued to showcase his shot-stopping skills, repelling efforts from Cameron Humphreys, Taylor, and Radulovic before the latter doubled Huddersfield’s lead with a diving header in the 54th minute, assisted by Bali Mumba.

Drury praised his players’ mentality and collective effort throughout the encounter. “It was a real away performance; I would have been just as pleased if we played like that at home,” he remarked. “We were relentless from start to finish and managed the game really well. The full squad contributed so well today. Collectively, we looked strong.”

Plymouth manager Tom Cleverley acknowledged the challenge posed by Huddersfield and expressed disappointment in his team’s performance. “We had a big chance early on, and our keeper did well, but after that, we seemed to fear their quality and really went into our shell,” he said. “Technically they have a great side, so you have to run harder, win your duels, get on top of your individual battles, and then the game. If anything, we shrank away from that challenge.”

Cleverley described the defeat as a humbling experience but one the team intends to learn from as they look ahead to upcoming fixtures. “We were dominated in every phase of the game,” he added. “Afternoons like this, you have to take it on the chin when you are second-best.”

The result underscores Huddersfield’s continued push for promotion, while Plymouth will seek to regroup and recover points in the matches ahead.
