No. 19 Texas rallied from a 21-point halftime deficit to defeat seventh-ranked Ole Miss 34-27 on Saturday in a pivotal Southeastern Conference matchup held in Austin, Texas. The Longhorns overcame a 24-3 halftime score, relying on a late rushing surge led by Raleek Brown and efficient quarterback play from Arch Manning to secure the victory.
Texas (5-2, 2-2 SEC) began the game with a series of strong plays, including an early 2-yard touchdown run by Manning following a long catch-and-run by Ryan Wingo and a significant run from Brown. Manning, who finished with 212 passing yards and three total touchdowns, found Wingo for a 50-yard touchdown in the first half to give the Longhorns a 17-3 lead. Michael Terry III later extended Texas’s advantage to 24-3 with a short touchdown run midway through the second quarter.
However, Ole Miss (5-2, 3-2 SEC) mounted a powerful second-half comeback. The Rebels, led by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’s 250 passing yards, scored three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter. A critical defensive play came when Blake Purchase forced a Manning fumble that Kam Franklin recovered in the end zone for a touchdown, narrowing the gap to 24-10. Chambliss also connected twice with Horatio Fields for touchdowns, including a 27-yard score in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 24-24.
Despite Ole Miss’s resurgence, Texas relied on its rushing attack in the final stages. Brown amassed 157 yards on the ground, including a pivotal 47-yard run that set up Manning's 1-yard touchdown on a naked bootleg, putting the Longhorns ahead for good. Brown followed with a 28-yard run, enabling kicker Gianni Spetic to add a 33-yard field goal that pushed the lead to 34-24 with just over two minutes remaining.
Ole Miss responded with a 39-yard field goal from Lucas Carneiro and recovered an onside kick to mount one final drive. However, the Rebels were stopped just outside the red zone, with Jelani McDonald intercepting a pass in the end zone on the game’s final play to seal the win for Texas.
Chambliss threw two touchdown passes and accounted for a career-high three interceptions, while Wingo was a key target for Texas, finishing with seven receptions for 111 yards. Both teams exchanged early field goals before the Longhorns established their first double-digit lead.
The comeback victory ended Texas’s two-game losing streak and snapped their fall from the No. 1 spot in the AP poll, while Ole Miss lost a chance to climb higher in the conference standings with the defeat.
