Jeep has introduced the 2026 Cherokee Overland, the top-tier trim of its midsize hybrid SUV, which combines modern fuel efficiency with a design that pays homage to the model’s heritage. The vehicle, priced starting at $43,000 before destination fees, builds on the refreshed Jeep Cherokee lineup released earlier this year.

The 2026 Cherokee Overland features a hybrid powertrain developed by Stellantis in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque. The system provides an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 39 miles per gallon in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 37 mpg combined, using regular gasoline. This marks a significant improvement in efficiency compared to previous Cherokee models.

Designed to seat five passengers comfortably, the Overland comes equipped with full-time mechanical all-wheel drive. Its interior offers several premium features, including heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, and an Alpine nine-speaker audio system. The SUV also includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless charging, and 20-inch wheels. Distinctive exterior elements like LED headlights, fog lights, and taillights complement the SUV’s squared-off, boxy styling, which deliberately echoes the classic 1984 Cherokee design.

The 2026 Cherokee debuted in the first quarter of 2026, with Jeep reporting sales of 10,570 units in the first half of the year. Production takes place in Toluca, Mexico. While the lineup currently includes the Overland as its top variant, Jeep plans to introduce a Trailhawk model aimed at enhancing the vehicle’s off-road capabilities, though its release date has not been announced.

During a recent week-long test, the Cherokee Overland impressed with its spacious and comfortable interior alongside the blend of power and fuel efficiency. However, the opportunity to evaluate its off-road performance has been delayed due to weather-related cancellations, raising questions about when Jeep will demonstrate the vehicle’s capabilities beyond paved roads.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee Overland competes in a crowded segment that includes the Ford Bronco Sport, GMC Terrain, Honda Passport, Hyundai Santa Fe, Subaru Outback, Mazda CX-5, Toyota 4Runner, and Volkswagen Tiguan. With its hybrid efficiency, contemporary technology, and styling that nods to its heritage, the new Cherokee aims to carve out a distinctive position in the midsize SUV market.
