A new health screening service in New York’s Soho neighborhood is offering comprehensive body scans and diagnostic tests for $499, aiming to provide a detailed preventive health assessment in a single visit. The facility, operated by Swedish company Neko Health, utilizes advanced technology to evaluate multiple aspects of an individual’s health, including skin analysis, body composition, visceral fat, circulation, and heart function.

Upon arrival, clients undergo a series of non-invasive tests in a high-tech environment that features an array of high-resolution cameras, lasers, and other proprietary devices. During one part of the evaluation, a laser system examines the fine blood vessels in the feet to assess circulation, while other scanners measure heart performance and pulse without physical contact. The process also includes traditional assessments such as EKG, blood pressure checks, a blood draw analyzed on site, grip strength measurement, and eye pressure testing.

Neko Health’s chief medical officer, Dr. Sunita Mishra, emphasized the company’s focus on early detection of serious health conditions. The service claims to have identified life-threatening issues in prior patients, including melanoma, metabolic disorders, leukemia, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Mishra cited a recent case in which the facility detected a dissecting aortic aneurysm, a potentially fatal condition, enabling swift referral and immediate surgery.

The preventive health sector, valued at approximately $415 billion globally, has grown significantly as chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension become more prevalent. Neko Health positions itself as a supplement for individuals already engaged in monitoring their health, such as users of wearable tech like Oura rings or Whoop bands. The company does not offer diagnoses; instead, any concerning findings are referred to affiliated medical centers for confirmation and treatment.

While the service is currently not covered by insurance, patients may utilize flexible spending or health savings accounts to offset costs. The experience is designed to be comfortable and thorough, with staff members guiding clients through each step and explaining the results in real time.

Despite some elements being perceived as less informative—such as the “heart age” metric that summarizes cardiovascular risk—Neko Health’s approach contrasts with more conventional medical appointments by allowing more time and interaction during the visit.

Dr. Mishra clarified that the scans are not intended to replace regular check-ups with a primary care physician but rather to complement annual physicals with additional, technologically advanced screening options.
