The cruise industry is set for significant expansion in 2027, with major operators unveiling new vessels designed to enhance onboard experiences and broaden itinerary options. Leading cruise lines including Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, and MSC Cruises are all introducing state-of-the-art ships, highlighting the growing popularity of cruising as a vacation choice.
Disney Cruise Line will position the Disney Wish from Southampton for a series of European cruises during the summer of 2027. This will mark the first time the Wish operates from the UK, featuring themed dining inspired by franchises such as Marvel and Frozen, alongside theatrical performances and opportunities to meet Disney characters. Later in the year, the ship will undertake a one-way transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York, with bookings expected to open shortly.
Royal Caribbean plans to launch the Hero of the Seas in August 2027. Part of the Icon Class, which includes some of the world’s largest cruise ships, Hero of the Seas will homeport in Miami and serve Caribbean routes. The vessel will feature extensive entertainment options, including nine pools, new waterslides, and the debut of a funnel raft ride at sea. Guests will also find 28 dining venues and numerous bars and lounges.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Aura will debut in May 2027 as the largest ship in the fleet. The ship’s amenities include a two-deck thermal suite, a sensory rain pool, a snow cave, six waterslides, an 82-foot ropes course, and the line’s first overhanging cabanas overlooking the beach club. Its maiden Mediterranean voyage will depart from Trieste, Italy, before repositioning to Miami for Caribbean itineraries.
Disney Cruise Line will also introduce Disney Believe in late 2027, the final ship in the Wish class series. While details remain limited, initial images reveal new design elements in the atrium and ship exteriors, with themes inspired by Disney films such as Encanto, Moana, The Little Mermaid, Frozen, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The line plans further expansions with a new class of ships set for 2029.
MSC Cruises will add MSC World Asia to its fleet, debuting in December 2026 and offering opportunities for exploration throughout 2027. The vessel features a large water park, over 40 bars and restaurants, a spa, casino, bumper cars, numerous suites, and a shopping gallery. The ship is divided into seven distinct districts to enhance the onboard experience.
