The New York Times marked its 175th anniversary with a special event featuring a screening of the classic film “His Girl Friday” at the Metrograph theater in New York City. The screening was part of a broader series showcasing films related to journalism, which also included titles such as “Almost Famous,” “The Insider,” “Broadcast News,” “All the President’s Men,” and “The Parallax View.”
The event opened with a panel discussion featuring Times investigative reporter Megan Twohey, film critic Alissa Wilkinson, and Liana Satenstein, founder of the media outlet Neverworns. The conversation focused on the intersection of journalism and film, exploring the portrayal of newsgathering and its impact on public perception.
Following the screening and discussion, attendees gathered for a cocktail reception. Among those present were actress Julia Fox, Sean Manning from Simon & Schuster, Vanity Fair editor Mark Guiducci, New York magazine’s Sam Hine, and Jennifer Vitagliano of Raf’s. The celebration highlighted the enduring relationship between journalism and cinema while honoring the newspaper’s legacy over the past century and three quarters.
