A recent study has revealed that the cost of a pint of beer at UK airports is significantly higher than at local pubs, with prices averaging 32 percent more. According to the research, the average price for a pint of lager at airports across the country stands at £7.24, compared to £5.50 in typical pubs.

The most expensive beer was recorded at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, where the average price for a pint reaches £7.94. Conversely, travellers departing from Stansted Airport pay the least, with an average cost of £6.45 per pint.

The research was conducted by the price comparison website Idealo, which aimed to identify the most affordable options for British consumers planning to travel to events such as the upcoming World Cup. A spokesman for the company noted that while fans eagerly anticipate the tournament, the cumulative costs of travel, accommodation, and match tickets can be substantial. Even customary activities like enjoying a pre-flight drink come with inflated prices at airports.

Despite the higher prices, some football supporters appear undeterred. Ian Christopher, a fan from Liverpool, remarked that airport pints are considered a luxury but that the excitement of travelling often overshadows the cost. “I don’t think I’ve ever paid attention to how much I pay as I’m too excited about going away,” he said.

The findings highlight a broader trend of premium pricing at airports, reflecting the convenience and captive market but also raising questions about affordability for travellers.
