The Turffontein Racecourse in South Africa is set to host a competitive card on October 24, featuring nine races over a variety of distances and conditions.

The opening 1,600-meter race highlights several contenders, including Storm Cyclone, who demonstrated promise with a close third-place finish over the same distance in KwaZulu-Natal. Capability Brown and Madrid are also noted as horses with potential based on their recent performances and improvements.

In the 2,000-meter second race, Whatwillbewillbe attracted attention with a strong finish to secure third place in its first outing under current training. Clairwood Breeze, a lightly raced but consistent competitor, is expected to challenge strongly, while Gus On The Bus and Silvaj bring experience and form to the field, though their scope for further improvement appears limited.

Race three centers on The Ultimate King, a horse returning from a layoff but known to perform well when fresh and well suited to the distance. Other contenders include Aladdin’s Lamp, whose recent race over 1,600 meters is expected to have prepared him for the longer trip, and Main Defender, favored by the race conditions but typically above his optimum distance. Indian Ocean, who finished second in a recent feature race over 2,200 meters, is declared competitive with blinkers reapplied.

The 1,000-meter sprint in race four features Perfect Sky, who benefits from a good post-comeback run, with Alpine Jet and Trajanus also among the low-mileage sprinters capable of contending despite extended periods away from racing. Molten Rock carries bottom weight and has shown capability within this class.

Over the longer 2,400-meter distance in race five, Golden Warrior appears poised for a strong performance after rebounding with a close second placing while equipped with blinkers. The horse that defeated him, Utsaah, has since validated that form by winning against several of the same rivals, including Eu-phrates, Samuel Sharpe, and the respected Futurewolff.

In race six, Ocean Mistress, unbeaten over course and distance and with a solid juvenile record including placings in Grade 2 events at Hollywoodbets Greyville, looks promising as she continues to develop as a two-year-old. Lost For Words, Winter In Auckland, and Captain Selvie also bring course and distance suitability to this contest.

Race seven features Matinee, who won impressively on debut over 1,000 meters at the Vaal and is expected to benefit from the additional 160 meters. Love Not War’s inside barrier and consistency mark her as a strong competitor, while recent winners Go Gucci Go and Greengandigol are considered to be progressing.

The 1,610-meter eighth race includes several emerging contenders. Staggerwing holds a slight weight advantage after finishing narrowly beaten by Minerva Fae, who has shown steady improvement. Debut winner Steel And Satin and last-start victor Amadioo are also likely to impact the outcome, each continuing to develop.

The final race at 1,610 meters features Major Arcana, who delivered an eye-catching return, finishing second at a higher level over 1,200 meters and is considered a leading candidate even with a modest rating increase. Willow Charm, with consistent recent form including one victory and two second-place finishes, remains in good form, while Surreal Song benefits from a favorable gate position. Time Will Tell rounds out the contenders, having consistently performed around the required standard in recent races.

Overall, the Turffontein card presents a well-balanced program with several horses showing strong recent form and promising developmental trajectories, suggesting competitive racing across the board.
