Apple has introduced its first foldable smartphone, named the iPhone Duo, marking the company’s entry into the foldable device market. The new model features a 5.4-inch cover screen that opens like a book to reveal a larger 7.6-inch display, similar in size to an iPad, combining portability with a tablet-like experience.

The iPhone Duo supports Apple Pencil, allowing users to take handwritten notes and create drawings directly on the main screen. Apple has incorporated a nano-texture finish on the primary display to minimize glare and reflections while maintaining a smooth surface, designed to eliminate the crease commonly seen on foldable screens.

In terms of hardware, the device includes a dual-lens rear camera system and is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro processor. It offers a long-lasting battery with rapid charging capabilities. Durability features include a Ceramic Shield glass screen, an aerospace-grade titanium frame, and internal support ribs to reinforce the device’s structure and rigidity. The handset is also splash, water, and dust-resistant.

Apple has optimized the software to enhance the foldable experience. The iPhone Duo automatically adjusts apps to fit either screen, supports multitasking, and introduces a Split View feature that enables users to run two applications side by side. The camera system has been enhanced as well, with a function that automatically frames group photos, allowing users to take pictures remotely without manually pressing the shutter button.

The iPhone Duo will be available for purchase starting Friday, October 23, in two color options: Star White and Night Sky. The starting price is set at £1,999, placing it £300 higher than Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold8 foldable smartphone.
