Speaking alongside former England striker Daniel Sturridge, Tuchel acknowledged the disappointment of the recent 2-1 Nations League final loss to Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, describing the defeat as “painful.”
However, Tuchel highlighted a key moment from the tournament: England’s 3-2 victory over the World Cup co-hosts, the United States, secured on their home soil despite England playing much of the second half with ten men. He emphasized the team’s strong spirit, particularly in an incident following the final whistle when substitute Jordan Henderson sustained a broken arm after falling over an advertising hoarding. Tuchel described how the entire squad immediately rallied around Henderson, halting celebrations and offering protection and support, calling it “just so special.”
Looking ahead, England are set to face Spain, Croatia, and the Czech Republic twice each in the next Nations League cycle. Tuchel expressed a deepening connection with the team, noting the bond forged through shared successes and difficult moments. He also spoke positively about integrating younger players into the squad, seeing this as a key part of continued progress.
Regarding preparations for major tournaments, Tuchel acknowledged the logistical challenge of readying the team for the 2026 World Cup in the United States but stressed the importance of building on recent experiences.
