South African police announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with one of a series of recent killings of women in the Ekurhuleni municipality, located on the outskirts of Johannesburg. The suspects, two women and one man, appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Monday following their apprehension related to the death of a woman whose body was discovered last week in the area.

Over the past two months, nine women in their 20s and 30s have been killed in Ekurhuleni, prompting widespread concern amid South Africa's persistent challenges with violence against women. Authorities are investigating potential links between the cases, with some similarities noted among several of the incidents, leading to fears that a serial offender or offenders may be active in the region.

The court hearing for the arrested individuals was postponed to October 1, allowing time for formal bail applications. Police have cautioned that while the suspects are connected to one killing, it remains unclear whether all the murders are related.

Police Minister Firoz Cachalia addressed the situation on Sunday, stating that there is currently no definitive evidence pointing to a serial killer's involvement but emphasized that investigations are ongoing and all possibilities remain under consideration. Local authorities have issued safety alerts urging women in Ekurhuleni to exercise caution in light of the recent violence.
