Khulna authorities have apprehended three individuals in connection with the murder of Md Azmul Hossain, a student at Northwestern University in Khulna. The arrests took place on September 22 during coordinated operations conducted by the Special Response Battalion (SRB) and the Detective Branch (DB) of the Khulna Metropolitan Police.

The suspects were detained in separate locations across Pirojpur, Khulna, and Barishal districts. According to Rezaur Rahman, deputy commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police, those arrested include Hasnat Habib Rifat, 30, who is employed as a cashier at a public bank; Tarek Hasan, also known as Rubel, 35, identified as a private sector employee; and Pratap Sarker, a student at Khulna University.

Officials have not yet disclosed the motives behind the murder or any details regarding the investigation’s progress. The authorities continue to question the suspects in an effort to establish the circumstances surrounding the case and to determine any potential connections. The incident has drawn considerable attention due to the victim’s status as a university student in the region.
