Three creek dredging projects designed to mitigate flooding and enhance water flow have been completed in Myeik Township, Taninthayi Region, according to the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department.

Funded through the regional budget for fiscal year 2026-2027, the projects involved dredging waterways in Sandawut, Inngamaw, and Thamote village-tracts. The work included clearing a 5,000-foot section of Pachishaung Creek, as well as 6,000-foot stretches in both Mayinnge Creek and U Chan Aye Creek to improve drainage into nearby rivers.

Officials indicated that the completed projects will help protect approximately 140 acres of monsoon paddy fields from flooding during heavy rains. Additionally, the dredging efforts are expected to lessen flood risks around critical infrastructure, including sections of the Union Highway near the Kyaukphyutaung junction and the S-Curve Bridge. Improved water flow in these areas is anticipated to benefit both agricultural and transportation sectors.
